Tips for a budget savvy bride

There are many clever methods of saving money on wedding flowers.  A few of our top tips:

  • Before falling in love with a gorgeous bridal bouquet of gardenias, decide on your budget for flowers and provide this to your florist as well as any flowers that you dislike but generally allow your florist enough flexibility so he or she can use flowers which are in season and are cheapest.  Flexibility in flower choices will result in a lower cost.

  • Hold your wedding during the Christmas season or immediately after Easter when a church or reception venue will already be decorated.

  • Avoid holding your wedding in February when flower prices are at an annual high due to Valentine’s Day.

  • Large arrangements on an alter will only be seen from far away.  Use inexpensive flowers such as carnations or large filling flowers such as snowball mums.

  • Halve the cost of pew flowers by having flowers on every second row vs every row.

  • With single stems of a bold, graphic flower-like dinner plate dahlias-a little goes a long way.  Each stem can star in its own small arrangement; a grouping of these is perfect for decorating a long, rectangular table.
